Product Assembly Business

Product assembly..Have you ever wondered what many people do once the get that big purchase home and realize they have no idea how to put it together?

With the tough economic times most consumers are now facing, the task of fitting the purchase of needed furniture into an already taxed budget can be tricky. Because of this, more and more folks are turning to build-it-yourself items that can be purchased relatively inexpensively and are less pricey to ship. However, once the box is opened and the directions, which are rarely in English, are examined many people either immediately break out in a cold sweat, or just end up throwing up their hands in overwhelmed frustration after realizing the difficulty of the product assembly task-at-hand. This is where you come in!

I recently ordered several 'flat packed' pieces of furniture from a major international retailer. Because of the selection and price, it seemed like the obvious choice to go with when I made my purchasing decision. However, a week later (not to mention the pricey trip to the chiropractor to fix the crick in my back), I finished the tedious and backbreaking job of putting all the furniture together.

You will start a service that will arrange for a person to arrive at a customer's home, tools in hand, and deftly assemble their furniture, toys, or whatever else they have that needs assembling. This product assembly service will be a godsend, not just for people who are self-proclaimed klutzes, but also for anyone who lacks the time or physical stamina necessary for assembling these tricky items. Imagine your grandmother ordering what she thinks is a fabulous buy from a television commercial or catalog, waiting for it to be shipped, and then being bitterly disappointed when she finds her purchase delivered to her front porch in a hulking box and then suddenly realizing, to her dismay, that it is completely unassembled. Is she going to whip out her toolbox and set to work assembling the item? Chances are, the answer to that question is a resounding "No!"

You should determine what you would like to charge your customers based on the typical rate charged in your area. One product assembly company charges $55 an hour during the day, for any project that takes less than four hours. This same entity charges $75 an hour after 6pm and for any work that needs to be done on the weekend. If you will be contracting other people to perform the work, you may want to decide whether to charge more or less than these amounts, but it is a reasonable expectation to be able to charge more for work performed at a moment's notice and during times that are outside of what is generally considered normal business hours.

The next thing you will need to do is to get yourself in touch with the people who are looking for you! You could advertise your services on your own website listing the areas that you, or your assembling staff, are willing to travel, the fees that you will charge, and the brands of items that you specialize in assembling. No matter which media you choose to use to advertise your services (online or off), be sure to provide a local phone number as well as email address, so that your potential customers can request estimates or ask about specific details of the services you are offering.

You may also want to advertise your per-hour services by running a visible advertisement in a local phone directory, list your business with any applicable online business directories and also by printing up flyers and posting them in places where people in your area needing your services would be most likely frequent. Be sure to include popular lunch places and coffee shops! Most post offices and grocery stores also have bulletin boards that they will allow you to place an advertisement on. Be sure to take advantage of any public bulletin boards in your immediate area to find the people who are looking for you and your services.

In no time at all, you will have built up a large client base, many by word of mouth as they experience and appreciate your professional services in action!
