Beamed Ceiling System

If you are considering transforming a room or open area with beautiful architectural beamed ceiling system then read on. I have found a very easy and attractive way to change or enhance the beauty of any space with a simple beamed ceiling system or maybe a plank ceiling or wall project.

If considering a new beamed ceiling system the first step is to select a design idea for your new ceiling project. I have found a page that will share a variety of room types and show you before and after ideas. Click Here to view a series of before and after slides.

decorative faux rustic beam with iron trim Did you know that you can install a beautiful and architecturally correct beamed ceiling system and you have a series of different wood textures, species, and colors to choose from. Best of all you can do this in a typical weekend with a modern system that weighs practically nothing and is easy for any do it yourselfer to work with. I am talking about a Faux Beam system that you can purchase as prefinished or as a product you can stain or paint to suite.

This process requires only a very simple list of equipment to install:

• Tape measure

• Screw gun

• Stud finder

• Chalk line

• Caulk gun

• PL Premium Construction Adhesive or Liquid Nails

• Screws

• Mollies (if necessary)

• Ladder (if necessary)

• Saw

• Blocks of wood

• Caulk wood filler

You can begin the installation process by placing masking tape to determine the position of your beams. From here you should plan to chalk two parallel lines to align the planned inside edges of your new beams. This will help you align the wood blocks you will install to help secure the beam.

Once you have determined the best location for the blocks use a stud finder to determine if you can screw the blocks directly through the ceiling into a joist or if you will have a hollow surface above the ceiling which will require a molly bolt to anchor it into the hollow area above the ceiling. The manufacturer recommends a block within 2’ of each end and additional blocks every 3-6 feet in between. walnut decorative beam, oak decorative beam, painted decorative beam The next step will be to measure and cut the beams to length. Before beginning this process the manufacturer recommends leaving the beam in the room for at least 24 hours to acclimate it to both temperature and humidity in the room. Cut the beam slightly longer than the actual measurement to assure a snug fit.

Push the beam into place and fit it tightly into place. When the beam is in place you should place screws through the beam into each side of the wood blocks.

The last two steps are to wipe off and clean any glue that might ooze from the beam-ceiling joint and then apply caulk to conceal screw heads.

If I have your interest now then Click Here and you can view instructional videos as well pictorial installation details.

You can also search through over 140 photos of various beam styles and installation options. If you find something you like find simple pricing as well as shipping details all in one place.

From here you are on your way to the same type of beautiful make over as you can see Ty Pennington’s team use on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Click Here to watch the 5 episodes where they used these same beams.
