Build A Home

So you want to build a home. Anyone setting out to build a home should first consider many if not all of the following ideas. I consider myself fortunate to live in an area of the country where you have a choice not only of where you want to live but also who will create your new home design and who will build the home.

Now I want to be clear that I strongly encourage every person reading this to enlist the help of qualified professional help in both the design and construction phase of their new home. That said, to build a home that you are sure to love I feel the layout or design of your new home requires some deep thought into the day to day lives of all who will live there as well as thought into future needs.

Living here in the Midwest we have the flexibility to enlist the help of a qualified design professional like myself as conveniently as in many local lumber yards. The advantage of such an option is very evident. Your designer will not only know all local building requirements. This person will be able to help you directly all the way through the process from design to selecting the right products for your new home to ensure that they work into your design requirements. A local designer will also be familiar with the builders in your area as well as possible insight into available properties.

This option is especially helpful if your plans include general contracting your efforts to build a home. Since this designer will have spent time getting to know your wants and needs, who better qualified to help you through the entire process. I can tell you from personal experience that we offer a discounted design rate to people who work with us through their entire project because it is a time saving to us as material suppliers to have an intimate understanding of the design and project expectations. This all translates to money savings for the home owner.

So what if your area does not allow localized design work or requires certification from an architectural firm? My advice would still be to visit your local building center and ask to speak with someone in their contractor sales area for advice on services available in your area.
