Don't Make This Mistake When DYI Tiling

by Brianna
(Sumter, SC, USA)

About a year ago my boyfriend and I decided to build our own bar. We cut the wood, nailed it together, and even put it on wheels. We painted it black and white to go with the décor of the room. It still felt like it needed something more so we decide to take a stab at DIY tiling.

We will probably not be trying this again anytime soon because it was much more time consuming than we had anticipated. Although a lot of our anguish could have been avoided but using the correct supplies. At the hardware store they offer many different types grout and mortar.

Our big mistake was buying a 2-in-1 product. WE got home with all of stuff and began tiling. Everything was going great and looked fantastic when we finished. They next day after letting it all dry we discovered all the grout had cracked! It looked terrible. I was so upset as it had taken almost a full day to complete our first time tiling project.

We ended up having to scrape all of the cracked grout out, go buy new grout, and re-do the entire thing. As a result, much of our tiled had little chips in it and looked very sloppy. So my tip is make sure that you buy the mortar and the grout as separate products when DIY tiling.
