Where Do I Start?

It has been my experience that this is the area most people know the least about.

It seems to me like everyone gets excited about floor plans and all the pretty pictures in the magazines, which ultimately becomes a great help to those of us who design.

But I caution you… learn and implement a plan for the overall process and you will enjoy much smoother sailing through the rest of the adventure.

Remember this advice…Planning and building your own home or remodeling project should be an enjoyable and memorable process. If you begin this process by going through my list of Home Design Questions you should find answers to your most basic needs.

I think there is great value in assessing early your motives for building or remodeling rather than buying a home. Since I am assuming that you are leaning toward the option of building or remodeling your existing home we will move right into the subject of Plan Design where we will cover the topics you need to consider to come up with the perfect plan for your project.

The last topic I am going to mention in this basic guide section is in the area of Contractor selection. This topic will be discussed in greater detail in the contractor section but I want to get you thinking about this major part of your project.
