How to remodel a bathroom

Sketching your plans, no matter how crude, will help in the long run.

Sketching your plans, no matter how crude, will help in the long run. Having a helping hand never hurts either!

You should always visualize your finished product when remodeling anything. You have to see the room without any current fixtures, and how it will appear with fresh paint and possibly appliances.

First remove, remove, remove! Take out all old tile, wallpaper, flooring, etc. This gives you a blank canvas to work with.

Then sit down with a notebook to really hatch out your plan.

Determine if new appliances (sinks, toilets, cabinets) are really in order, if they just need sprucing up, try a coat of paint before the expensive alternative.

Try the old trick of simply moving things to new parts of the room. Sometimes this will maximize space and utility, and give you something new to look at!

New flooring and tile can be purchased for cheap from various wholesalers and scrapyards. You can save anything from pennies to thousands if you make the effort!

Bottom line, always try to think ahead to provide the most cost effective and refreshing way to remodel.
