Where To Start This Process

I am often asked where to start the process of building a home? The best answer I can give you is to begin by asking yourself some simple but thought provoking questions. Your answers will become your guide to the next few steps. Begin by asking yourself “Do I have any interest in being involved in the actual construction process?”

We will discuss Building Your Own Home in another section. For now I just want you thinking about the option, as well as the option of Do it Yourself General Contracting If neither of these ideas sound like responsibilities you want to own for the next 9 months, that’s right, it all sounds great now but how will you feel then. Read thes sections as well as the section on Homebuilding Schedule to have a better idea of what is involved.

If you ultimately decide neither of these is your cup of tea. Don’t worry there are great General Contracting companies in every community in this country. The reason I hit this topic when discussing the first steps is that your ultimate decision here will direct all your future steps to some degree.

It is never too early to begin assessing your wants and needs. This is an important distinction when it comes around to design planning and overall budget time. Many people put their wants ahead of their needs only to be disappointed in the end. I have many projects where I bring clients back down to reality and make sure their plan has all the families needs met first. Remember also when it comes to needs, think of the future. Do your future plans require the 3 bedrooms you need today or more?
