Wood Windows

More options and more style than ever before.

Wood windows are considered the standard material for residential home construction. They can be painted or stained, and is strong and easy to work with. Ease-of-use makes for easier custom windows, which is why highly detailed designs are typically made from wood. With regard to energy efficiency, few sash and frame materials are better insulators than wood. Most wood window products today are using a high grade preservative treatment on all their wood components to assure a long product life. Combine that with an almost unlimited variety of exterior cladding colors and you will understand why wood windows are still the number one choice in American homes.

The only downside to using these windows is that they require regular maintenance. In today’s modern homes it is very common to see higher moisture levels especially during winter months. Since the window glass surface is naturally the coolest point condensation and possibly even frost will form on the glass during extreme weather and interior humidity periods.

If this process continues unchecked damage to the interior wood surface may occur. This is a natural occurrence and not a sign of a defective window. As such it is important to provide adequate air movement around any window surface where you observe this type of formation to reduce the amount of stagnate air forming condensation.

When it comes to wood windows, it's the sash and frame that you're going to see. The selection of sash or frame material goes beyond aesthetics, however. Window manufacturers use to typically specialize in a given material, so selecting your sash material might have limited your choice in makers.

But today most manufacturers have diversified to offer a broad selection of window construction materials. Take the time to weigh the pros and cons of each, along with the service and warranties behind each manufacturer, because windows are among the greatest single investments you will make in your home.
